For the second week in a row, the state of Michigan remains the toast of men’s college hockey.

Michigan State (5-1) is the top-ranked team in this week’s United States College Hockey Online poll, followed by Michigan (7-1) and defending national champion Western Michigan (4-2). It’s the second straight week the Spartans lead the top-20 poll, with the Wolverines and Broncos trading spots in the top three from a week ago after splitting their two meetings last week.

A fourth team from the state — Michigan Tech — is among others who received votes, tallying 18 points after registering eight last week.

Michigan State received 45 of the 50 first-place votes, while Michigan had two and Western Michigan one. Penn State (7-1), ranked No. 4, had the remaining two first-place votes.

The Spartans are coming off a pair of victories this past weekend at Northern Michigan, outscoring the Wildcats by a combined 10-2. Michigan State is off until Nov. 7-8 when it plays host to Penn State in a potential top-five showdown.

Michigan and Western Michigan each earned a victory on its home ice in the two meetings, with the Wolverines blanking the Broncos, 4-0, in Ann Arbor, and Western bouncing back, 5-2, in Kalamazoo. Michigan is at Notre Dame for two games this weekend, while Western Michigan is at St. Cloud State, which received votes in this week’s poll.
