The Detroit Red Wings have officially sent a 20-year-old prospect forward to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.

On Monday, the Detroit Red Wings held a practice session ahead of the start of their five-game road trip that’ll take them to St. Louis, Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Jose, and Las Vegas.

At that point, it was all but confirmed that the team would proceed with an important roster change.

As reported by Ansar Khan, Michael Brandsegg-Nygaard was skating as an extra:

“Red Wings practice before 5-game trip that starts tomorrow in St. Louis⁩.

The lines:

Finnie-Larkin-Raymond
DeBrincat-Kasper-Appleton
Copp-Compher-Berggren
Soderblom-Rasmussen-JVR

MBN appears to be an extra rotating in with the top six.”

Now, an official confirmation was made.

Detroit Red Wings Officially Send Michael Brandsegg-Nygaard to AHL

Today, the Red Wings confirmed that Brandsegg-Nygaard will join the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.

The 20-year-old forward scored one point, an assist, in nine games with the Red Wings this season.

Last season, he tallied 11 points in 42 games in the SHL, adding three points in three playoff games with the Griffins.

He has never had much of an offensive impact, but has what it takes to have one.

Remembered as the only Norwegian player drafted in the first round, his physical assets are his main tools. Playing in such a style can take some more time for players to develop. Seeing him sent down to the AHL isn’t surprising, and will greatly benefit him.
