Can the Bruins stay competitive this season?
The Boston Bruins find themselves at a crossroads, but with a talented young group of players leading them into the future, they’ve put together a tough 1-3-0 record on the road this season as they sit in last place in the Atlantic Division. Offensively, the Bruins are more than competent, averaging 3.20 goals per game this season, but with the goaltending ranking 24th in the league with a 3.50 GAA, they’ve got plenty of work to do to find their balance.
Leading the way in scoring for Boston this year has been superstar forward David Pastrnak with 13 points in 10 games, and given that they’ve also got six other players with six or more points on the year, the top of the lineup is having plenty of success. Last time out for the Bruins was a tight win over the Colorado Avalanche, with three assists to Mason Lohrei leading the way as Jeremy Swayman made an impressive 31 stops as they came away winners 3-2 at home.
Expected starting goaltender: Jeremy Swayman (2.85 GAA and a .910 save percentage in six games).
Can the Senators push for top spot in the Atlantic?
The Ottawa Senators have battled through some tough injuries early in the 2025/26 season, and with the team going 2-2-1 to start the year, they find themselves sitting right in the middle of the standings in the Atlantic Division. This success for the Senators comes despite their goaltending allowing a 3.89 GAA early in the year, with an offense that scores 3.33 goals a game continuing to keep them in games night after night.
With Brady Tkachuk out, it’s been the talented young Shane Pinto leading the way with 8 goals and 9 points in 9 games, with Cozens, Batherson, Giroux and Stutzle all having seven or more points to start the year as the lineup is rolling. Last time out for the Senators was a huge win over the Washington Capitals, with Batherson and Cozens both picking up a pair of goals as Linus Ullmark stopped 12 of the 13 shots he saw on the night, as they made a statement with a 7-1 victory.
