Sidney Crosby added another milestone to a legendary career on Monday night.
In the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 6–3 win over the St. Louis Blues, Crosby reached 1,701 points in his career. The 38-year-old center recorded a goal and two assists, becoming just the ninth player in NHL history to hit the mark and the fourth to do so entirely with one team. Announcing the milestone on X, the Penguins wrote, “Forever in awe of 87.”

Crosby’s three-point night also gave him 498 career multipoint games, passing Mario Lemieux (497) for the most in Penguins history.
The Pens captain entered the night with 1,698 points and reached the milestone early in the third period with an assist on Bryan Rust’s goal. Crosby later sealed the game with a breakaway goal to make it 5–3.
After the game, Crosby reflected on joining a group that includes hockey legends such as Wayne Gretzky, Jaromir Jagr, and Lemieux.

“Those are players that I grew up idolizing, and didn’t ever think that I’d be with them, or near them,” Crosby said. “So yeah, it’s something I’m grateful for, that I’ve been able to play this long and be part of that group.”
Crosby, now in his 21st NHL season, has started strong with seven goals and seven assists through 10 games. His 1,700th point also moved him within 22 of Lemieux (1,723) for eighth place on the league’s all-time scoring list.

Teammate Bryan Rust, who scored the milestone goal, called Crosby’s achievement “incredible” and said it was special to be part of it.

“To get the goal on his 1,700th point, I think it’s cool,” Rust said. “It’s something I’m going to remember.”
Crosby’s longevity and consistency have been defining traits since his debut in 2005, and although speculation about his future in Pittsburgh will never end, his legacy there is more than secured.
The Penguins are off to a 7–2–1 start and will face the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, with puck drop set for 6 p.m. ET.
