Nazem Kadri is one of the biggest names potentially available in the NHL this season, but now Insider Darren Dreger has labelled trade talks ‘premature’.
The Calgary Flames make a shock post-season push in 2024/25, but unfortunately for them they fell one point short, and this season, things look terrible as they have gone 2-8-1 through their first 11 games.
This hole the team have found themselves in have led to plenty of trade speculation, with the teams veterans like Rasmus Andersson, Blake Coleman and Nazem Kadri all finding themselves in trade chatter.Recently, the latter found himself linked to the Montreal Canadiens, with the fit being a perfect one on paper as Kadri could bring Stanley Cup experience to the 2C role for a youthful, energetic team that’s ready to make a statement in the Eastern Conference.
NHL Insider Labels Kadri Talks ‘Premature’
However, even with the Flames having just 5 points through 11 games this season, TSN’s Darren Dreger has addressed those reports, calling the Kadri to Montreal connection premature.
That doesn’t mean that Kadri won’t be traded this season, but if he is, it’s going to be much closer to the trade deadline, with the Flames front office likely not going to give up on their season this early.
Despite Calgary’s rough start, Kadri has been fantastic once more, leading the team in scoring thus far with 2 goals and 8 points in 11 games, and given his leadership and his great play in the big moments, post-season teams will be lining up for him if he’s made available.
If their struggles on both ends continue for Calgary however, Kadri could net the Flames a major return, and when he’s officially made available, expect Montreal to be one of those teams chasing the 34-year old.
