The Edmonton Oilers will continue to use a lineup of 11 forwards and 7 defenceman in tonight’s game against the New York Rangers.

The Oilers began using the 11/7 formation in their last game against Utah. This deployment gives the Coach additional ways he can work in double shifts for forwards, and take some pressure off their struggling defenceman.

According to reporters at today’s practice, the Oilers will be using the same lineup from their last game. That in itself is a rarity from Coach Knoblauch.

Some of these Oilers lines began showing some chemistry in their last game. Mangiapane is a great compliment to McDavid’s line, and Roslovic has begun to develop some chemistry with Draisaitl’s line. The bottom six has tons of talent, and can be worked in for extra shifts with only 11 forwards.

On defence, having the freedom to work in another player and take some pressure off struggling players is needed at the moment. Darnell Nurse was benched last game after severely struggling early this year – and it may have helped the Oilers turn things around.

Additionally, Oilers insider Jason Gregor has revealed that Regula is not cleared to return from his injury quite yet. When he is, he should take over the 6th defenceman spot.

Hopefully these likes are the beginning of some consistency to the Oilers lineup, and they can begin pulling themselves up the standings.
