Alex DeBrincat and the Detroit Red Wings pulled out all the stops in order to hold off on an almost-blundered loss against Todd McLellan’s former team, the Los Angeles Kings. The Red Wings would pull away and secure the win with a 4-1 finish last night against Corey Perry and the Kings.
With McLellan’s first trip to Los Angeles after being fired a few seasons ago, the team had a purpose last night.
After the Kings scored the first goal of the night, the team would bounce back with Marco Kasper scoring twice and Alex DeBrincat notching a goal to lead 3-1 with less than five minutes remaining in the game.
Corey Perry Ties it For The Los Angeles Kings, but the Detroit Red Wings battle back
The “worm,” Corey Perry, would come back with fury and score twice to tie the game. The Kings would force overtime, and it was thought they won the game in overtime, scoring a goal that would be disallowed.
While the game was contentious all night, Alex DeBrincat acknowledged the struggle the team put into finishing the Kings on their home ice.
«Obviously, we don’t want that to happen, but to battle through that, good PK in overtime, and to win in a shootout is great,» said DeBrincat after the game, via NHL.com. «Two points is two points, and doesn’t matter how you get them. I thought we battled well today.»
The Red Wings have shown that they’re resilient when it counts. The game-winning goal was scored by Lucas Raymond in a shootout after a hard-fought battle.
This is just another game where players like Marco Kasper shine through, as he continues to develop into a top-six player for the team.
DeBrincat’s statement is about fortitude and their ability to finish the game when it matters.
The Red Wings are now 8-3-0 (with three straight wins) for the season and 1st in the Atlantic Division.
