The Pittsburgh Penguins entered the new season as one of the more fascinating teams across the entire landscape of the NHL. This summer saw the Penguins be involved in all sorts of trade rumors, mainly around the veteran players on the roster.
One of those, surprisingly, was star Sidney Crosby, who has been the cornerstone of the franchise since he was drafted years ago. Crosby hasn’t asked out of the Penguins organization, but there were all kinds of trade speculation with the team likely heading toward a rebuild.
The veteran star only has a few more years left to play, and he wants to at least compete for a Stanley Cup before he calls it a career. It remains to be seen if they can still do that on the Penguins, and this could see him ask out at some point.
Crosby remains a very impactful player, and he could serve any team in title contention very well. Last season with Pittsburgh, Crosby still posted 33 goals and had 58 assists, playing in 80 games during the regular season.
While it remains to be seen how this will play out, the Penguins may need to make a decision that suits them for the future. The team would need to sell the fanbase on trading away Crosby, but they have to think about the years after he eventually retires.
This is just a prediction, NOT a report!

One option for the Penguins could be to work with Crosby to find a new home if they are going to trade him. This would at least help keep everything above board between the two sides, and it could help the fanbase at least feel better about this.
The two sides could work together to find him a destination that would allow him to compete for a title before he calls it a career. One of the better places could be the Carolina Hurricanes, who have been looking to finally get over the hump in the Eastern Conference.
Carolina lost in the Eastern Conference Final again last year, but if they could add someone like Crosby, it could propel them forward. Crosby has been known for being a clutch player throughout his career, and he could push this team to new heights.
The Hurricanes already have a strong team, but Crosby could be the missing piece. The veteran could act somewhat like Brad Marchand did for the Florida Panthers a year ago, giving them more veteran help along the roster.
If anything, this could be a chance for Crosby to hoist up another Stanley Cup before he retires, adding to his legendary career. The Hurricanes and Vrosby could both benefit from this pairing, and it could be must-watch TV if it were to happen at one point.
