► FOLLOW ALONG

• GOAL. Mantha empty net.

• Never heard booing here before. It’s coming now.

• Minnesota’s fourth power play forthcoming. Sid gives the slightest of taps to Kaprizov, and he goes down like he’s shot. The ref right in front of it didn’t call it. Guy way on the other side did.

• Breathtaking glove save by Gustavsson robs Hallander. Save of the night.

• GOAL. Kindel. Dominant power play (when it’s allowed on the ice). Great passing, booming shot from Karlsson, Kindel pounces on it last. Assists: Rust, Malkin. Time: 7:30, third period. Penguins, 3-1

• There it is. First power play. Pitlick off for an elbow.

• GOAL. Rust on a sweet setup from Shea. Sid won the draw, but he won’t get a point. Assists: Shea, Letang. Time: 6:29, third period. Penguins, 2-1

• Good work by the fourth line now. Hard, hard forecheck. Two dangerous chances by Acciari and Dewar.

• Strong three-on-two rush led by Geno, drops for Shea, who gets a good shot off. That evens the shots, 21-21. Still all three power plays for Minnesota. This really is Anaheim all over again.

• Third period underway.

• End second period. And a nice flurry at the finish, too. Shots are 20-17 for the Wild and, again, the power plays are 3-0.

• Karlsson’s just been so good.

• Dewar with the break right out of the box. Right toe from Gustavsson. Outstanding kill.

• Another penalty on Pittsburgh. Too many men. Minnesota’s got all three power plays.

• Good chances for Novak and Dewar. Still waiting on that first Pittsburgh power play.

• GOAL. Shea. Half-slapper. Smart play with Gustavsson down following a Novak stuff attempt. Assists: Novak, Letang. Time: 2:18, second period. Tie, 1-1

• Novak tip sticked away by Gustavsson. Well done by both.

• Two MASSIVE saves on Kaprizov by Jarry. Wow. Redirect, then a rebound.

• Second period underway.

• Had a couple conversations out back. Let’s just say that your favorite hockey team’s ON FIRE over this officiating tonight. Both calls equally. And they should be.

• End first period.

• Now Wotherspoon hobbles to the bench after a HARD block.

• Rust apparently just tripped a dude with his shoulder. I can’t. This is insane.

• Dumba just went off holding his arm in some discomfort.

• There aren’t words for how incorrect that call was. Sitting up here discussing it with Minnesota writers, and they happen to agree. They actually brought it up.

• NO GOAL. Challenge upholds the call on the ice. Brutal. Brazeau was so far out of the crease by the time Geno turned around to shoot that he’d have been out of the Brett Hull blue paint under the old rules. Just brutal.

• GOAL. Geno. Maybe. Call on the ice is that Brazeau interfered with Gustavssson, even though he was well out of the crease before Geno turned to shoot. Really don’t like this at all. Muse calls timeout to take a longer look before seeing if he should challenge.

• GOAL. Kaprizov. Tap-in. Letang was there, just didn’t cover. Assists: Johansson, Rossi. Time: 10:16, first period. Wild, 1-0

• Faber parks behind the Minnesota net for a half-hour, trying to tempt Hallander in one direction or the other. Hallander never bites. Icing follows.

• Middleton fires from between the hashes. Jarry closes it up. No rebound.

• Dewar’s hard pursuit of his own rebound makes for the game’s best chance. Gustavsson with the right shoulder to reject it.

• If the Penguins can begin getting some gas to their breakouts, they’re going to find space they like moving across the Minnesota blue line. At the moment, this is all feeling-out both ways. Shots are 3-3 at the seven-minute mark.

• Good shift for the Kindel line. Gustavsson did well to cover a rebound, or that’s a goal.

• Man, this place is always just so quiet. Unlike anywhere in professional sports.

• FACEOFF: Penguins vs. Wild, Lizotte vs. Marco Rossi, 8:08 p.m. Eastern

• Lizotte and the fourth line will get it going here, Lizotte hailing from nearby Lindstrom, Minn. Dewar and Novak grew up here, as well. Pickering’s mom and dad are down from Winnipeg, and Dumba played here previously, so they’re starting, too. I like that kinda stuff. Always have.

• Scratches: Harrison Brunicke, Kevin Hayes, Phil Tomasino, Connor Clifton.

• Warmups are underway here.

• And for John Hynes’ home team:

Kirill Kaprizov-Marco Rossi-Marcus Johansson
Vladirmir Tarasenko-Joel Eriksson Ek-Matt Boldy
Marcus Foligno-Ryan Hartman-Vinnie Hinostroza
Yakov Trenin-Danila Yurov-Tyler Pitlick

Jake Middleton-Jared Spurgeon
Zeev Buium-David Jiricek

Tommy Novak-Ben Kindel-Ville Koivunen
Connor Dewar-Blake Lizotte-Noel Acciari
