Red Wings leader calls upon teammates for lack of effort in loss vs Ducks ‘Unacceptable’

The Detroit Red Wings’ West Coast road trip has taken a turn for the worse, as they gave up 5 goals in a loss to the Anaheim Ducks, resulting in leader Moritz Seider calling the team out.
For a team that is top of the Atlantic Division, you can’t have off nights. And on Halloween, the team gave up a scary amount of goals that night, with 5.
They’d fail to provide John Gibson with the kind of goal support needed to keep the team in the game, despite his best efforts.
The team had issues finishing off the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues, but would emerge victorious anyway, not so with the Ducks.
«We got to come up with a better game plan, especially for such a meaningful game, first and foremost, for Gibby,” defenseman Moritz Seider said afterward. “Unacceptable to let him hang in there a couple times, then obviously frustration takes over and you kind of get away from your game a little bit.»
The Detroit Red Wings Unacceptable Effort Against the Anaheim Ducks
The team would leave John Gibson hanging out to dry, as players like Troy Terry and Lucas Carlsson would leave the night with multi-point games.
Troy Terry put up 3 points (2-1), and Carlsson ended the night with 4 (1-3).
That alone shows the blueline wasn’t capable of suppressing the Ducks, and Joel Quenneville’s strategies as they’d hoped.
Tod McLellan wouldn’t let the team escape criticism either, as he pinpointed where the team fell apart.
“Some of our problems in the past reared their heads again in the first period,” McLellan said. “A few outnumbered rushes on real poor decisions, including the power-play. Then suddenly, you’re chasing the game.”
The Red Wings are now 8-4-0, and 3-3-0 on the road, with this West Coast trip being spoiled by the loss on Halloween night.
John Gibson was acquired in trade from the Ducks during the summer and was thought to be the missing puzzle piece for a playoff spot in the NHL.
