In an odd set of circumstances, Brett Berard, a New York Rangers prospect, has had to pull out of the IIHF World Championships. The reason? Apparently, he had physical limitations that caused him to exit the tournament.
According to the New York Rangers prospect’s agent, Berard had to pull out of the IIHF 2025 World Championships due to a physical limitation.
Despite the fact that he’s going to miss a chance to develop at the World Championship it’s not expected to affect him when training camp rolls in 2025.
«I feel like it was just last month I was moving into my apartment there in Hartford,» Berard said during Rangers breakup day on April 21. «If you told me at the beginning of the year that I would have played 35 games in the NHL, I’d take that as if it was a dream come true. It was special to be here. It was special to be around this group of guys. Came in, right away everyone made me feel right in place.»
Berard had been a bright spot for a Rangers team that was sorely lacking in them.
While he was utilized in the Rangers’ top nine this season, he played 35 games in the NHL altogether and scored a total of 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists).
In the AHL he’d be as productive, scoring a total of 23 points (9 goals, 14 assists) in 30 games with the Hartford Wolfpack.
Without Berard, Team USA managed to shut out both opponents, Denmark and Hungary, in each contest for a combined score of 9-0.
So, safe to assume that they won’t miss his presence on the ice, unfortunately.
The IIHF World Championships started on May 9th and continue until May 25th, where we’ll get to see major NHL superstars butting heads playing for their respective countries.
Juuso Parssinen and the Finnish team were unable to overcome the French National Team in a surprising loss.
Now, there’ll be one fewer Rangers star to represent the team in international play this season.
