Chicago Blackhawks Recap, News & Tidbits
Chicago Hockey Now: The first point of the road trip was earned, but it would have been great to get two. The Blackhawks fell 3-2 in overtime against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were involved in all three goals. Chicago starts its six-game road trip with a 0-1-1 record.
More CHN: While Jason Dickinson was out of the lineup in Edmonton, the Blackhawks were fortunate to have defensive stud Ilya Mikheyev return after missing the past two games. Mikheyev has been the Blackhawks’ top defensive forward this season, although, he wasn’t able to slow down McDavid and Draisaitl in Saturday’s loss.
Anton Frondell has been bounced around in the lineup in his first SHL season, but he continues to consistently produce, regardless of where he’s slotted. Frondell centered Djurgarden’s third line on Saturday and registered two assists, now giving him 12 points (8G, 4A) through 17 games.
Roman Kantserov leads the KHL in goals with 13 through 21 games as a 21-year-old, and he’s in the final year of his current contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Kantserov recently talked with Sergey Demidov at RG Media and said he’s been in constant communication with the Blackhawks this year. The skilled forward said he’ll make his decision on whether he’s coming to North America once this season with Magnitogorsk ends.
OHL prospect Jack Pridham scored on a breakaway for his ninth goal of the season for the Kitchener Rangers. Pridham now has 16 points through 13 games.
Also in the OHL, 2024 first-round pick Marek Vanacker found the back of the net twice on Saturday, and he’s now tied for the league lead with 14 goals through just 13 games.
Down in the AHL, Nick Lardis scored another goal in the Rockford IceHogs’ 4-2 loss to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Oliver Moore picked up another point with the secondary assist on Lardis’ goal. Lardis is now tied for second in the AHL with 13 points (5G, 8A) through his first nine professional games.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
The Athletic: The Maple Leafs picked up the win for Toronto on Saturday, which the city surely would have swapped for a different result in Game 7 of the World Series. But midway through the third period, defenseman Chris Tanev had to be stretchered off the ice after a collision with Flyers’ forward Matvei Michkov. It was a scary moment for Tanev and Toronto, as it was his first game back in the lineup after suffering a concussion earlier this season. Tanev was taken to a local hospital to be further evaluated. Really hoping he’s alright.
New Jersey Hockey Now: After recent rumors of an extension, Jacob Markstrom and the New Jersey Devils finally agreed to a short two-year deal on Halloween night.
Florida Hockey Now: Brad Marchand rejoined the Florida Panthers on Saturday after a passing in his “family circle”, and he sure played with a chip on his shoulder. Marchand scored on a breakaway and tallied the lone goal of the shootout to help the Panthers beat the Dallas Stars.
San Jose Hockey Now: A familiar face for Blackhawks fans! Philipp Kurashev has been excellent to start the season with the San Jose Sharks, and he says it might even be the best hockey of his career.
Vegas Hockey Now: Excuses aren’t something that Bruce Cassidy wants any part of. The Vegas Golden Knights‘ head coach ripped his team after a 4-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
