The Toronto Maple Leafs may have gotten a major draft steal in Miroslav Holinka after a strong start to his season.

Miroslav Holinka has quietly become a key contributor with strong numbers this season, making him a player who could outplay his draft position.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft, 151st overall, Holinka was a player that at the time a few analysts saw as a prospect with a high floor and additional room in his game to grow.Sean Ditchfield for Dobber Prospects said on Holinka back in 2024 that the Czech center had a good foundation to work with. He’s a player who can adapt to various roles, which led to some playing time with the men’s team this season.

His stickhandling and ability to switch roles effectively are likely to be his major selling points to NHL teams. However, he needs to continue developing other areas of his game moving forward.

His adaptability and technical skills mark him as a player to watch.

Why the Maple Leafs Should Be Excited About Miroslav Holinka’s Breakout Season

The Toronto Maple Leafs may have gotten a draft steal in Miroslav Holinka, and he may be one to watch going forward.

Holinka has had a strong start this season in the Western Hockey League with the Edmonton Oil Kings, leading the team with eight goals and 19 points in 14 games.

Holinka leads the Oil Kings offense and has been the team’s best player, all while having shown improvements on the defensive end.

Leading the Oil Kings at both sides of the ice, Holinka is playing the part of a highly translatable all-around forward who can easily take his game to adapt to the AHL next season.

There is a clear projectability in Holinka’s game that could help propel him to succeed at the pro level, and potentially make the NHL.

Being able to be a competitive two-way forward who has shown the ability to drive offense, it’s very easy to see Holinka succeed in a bottom-six role, and potentially stay as a center.

It’ll remain seen what he is able to do when he jumps to the pros, but the Leafs may have gotten a surprise in Miroslav Holinka, and a potential NHL talent in the fifth round.
