Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis praised defenseman Alex Carrier and called him a warrior who is key to blocking shots.

The Montreal Canadiens have impressed so far with their start to the year, leading the Atlantic Division in points.

Even though plenty of the attention is being given to players like Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky and Nick Suzuki, Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis is pointing toward an underrated member of Montreal’s blue line.

Defenseman Alex Carrier is currently tied for fourth overall in the NHL with 32 total blocked shots, which St. Louis attributes to him being a “warrior”.

He’s a warrior. It’s contagious how he plays. It’s hard not to admire how he shows up. He’s gonna do everything (he can) to help the team. – Martin St. Louis

He also has five points (1G, 4A) in 12 games played so far this year. He’s playing in his first full year with the Habs after being acquired in December from the Nashville Predators for Justin Barron.

The Canadiens Want To Show Their Playoff Return Last Year Was Not A Fluke

For the 1st time since their run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final, the Canadiens returned to the playoffs.

Even though they wouldn’t get out of the ECQF, they gave the Washington Capitals everything they could handle, and the opening game could have gone either way as it ended in OT.

So far this year, the Canadiens are 9-3-0 and appear poised to show their playoff return last year wasn’t a fluke.
