Former Edmonton Oilers forward Klim Kostin is taking his talents back to the KHL after failing to land an NHL deal for this season.

The 26-year-old signed a contract for the remainder of the season with the KHL’s Omsk Avangard on Monday.

Kostin spent the past two seasons with the San Jose Sharks, posting one goal and seven points in 35 games last season.

His best season came with the Oilers in 2022-23, when he posted 11 goals and 21 points in 54 games. After posting three goals and five points in 12 games during Edmonton’s playoff run, Kostin was traded to the Detroit Red Wings that off-season.

Selected No. 31 overall in the first round of the 2017 draft by the St. Louis Blues, Kostin has 25 goals and 53 points in 109 career games with the Blues, Oilers, Red Wings and Sharks.

Kostin won the Gagarin Cup with Omsk during the 2020-21 season.
