The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to have plucked a steal from the 2025 NHL Entry Draft with Harry Nansi emerging as a bright young star in the OHL.
For a team that hasn’t had the luxury of selecting very high in the first round in nearly a decade, the Toronto Maple Leafs have to do a little extra work with their draft picks on a yearly basis.
The Leafs have been a top-10 team nearly every season, and have also shipped off a number of draft picks and prospects over the years to bolster at the deadline, leaving them with a low-ranked prospect pool.
Nevertheless, that has not stopped them for making savvy selections in recent drafts, including their most recent one with the late round pick of Harry Nansi in the 5th round.
A member of the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL, Nansi just proved his worth very early on, being named OHL Player of the Week after notching 1 goal and 8 assists en route to three victories.
In one of those outings, Nansi, who wears #34 just like Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews, scored a goal and added 4 assists, helping Owen Sound to an 8-3 victory over the Erie Otters. Additionally, 7 of his 8 assists were primary helpers, which truly encapsulated the week he had.
It’s been a fantastic start to the season for Nansi, who was selected with the 153rd overall pick this past summer. The 18-year-old’s 23 points so far this season has already matched his totals from last year, but in 50 fewer games.
With a career-high on deck in his next game, the Maple Leafs should be very excited and proud of Nansi’s development to start the 2025-26 season. He’s still a few years away from knocking on their doors, but he should be a fun watch until then.
