After being a point-per-game player in his first nine AHL games of the season with the Rockford IceHogs, Oliver Moore has apparently impressed GM Kyle Davidson enough to earn a call-up to the big leagues.
Moore, 20, was recalled by the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday afternoon, ahead of the team’s matchup with the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. Scott Powers of The Athletic was first to break the news, and he also reported that Moore will be available to play on Monday night against the Kraken.

The Blackhawks made the move official just over an hour later, and the 2023 first-round pick (No. 19 overall) was spotted on the ice for the morning skate in Seattle.
Moore played in nine NHL games at the end of the 2024-25 campaign after finishing his sophomore season of college hockey with the University of Minnesota. The speedy forward signed his entry-level contract and recorded four assists in his nine games with Chicago, while averaging 13:35 of ice time in mostly a third-line role.
Despite having a strong training camp and preseason, the Blackhawks elected to have Moore start his first full year of professional hockey down in the AHL with Rockford. That’s precisely the route that Davidson took with Frank Nazar to begin the 2024-25 season, which ended up working marvelously. And like Nazar, Moore got off to a fast start for the IceHogs and made a massive impact with his wheels offensively and defensively.
Through nine AHL games, Moore is tied for sixth in the AHL with six goals, while also ranking inside the top 30 in the league in points with nine. Moore tallied only 21 goals in 77 career NCAA games across two seasons for the Golden Gophers, so his immediate uptick in the goal-scoring department was rather impressive. His six goals lead all AHL rookies, and he’s tied for fourth in rookie scoring with nine points.
The Blackhawks also placed forward Jason Dickinson on injured reserve on Monday, which left only 12 healthy forwards on the NHL roster, before Moore was recalled. Dickinson reaggravated his nagging injury in Thursday’s 6-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets.
Moore’s early-season call-up is likely a direct result of Dickinson now being listed as week-to-week, but should he perform well during his time up with the Blackhawks, there’s a chance that he remains part of the NHL roster for the long haul.
Ryan Greene was originally expected to begin the year with the IceHogs, but he ended up making the NHL season-opening roster because Landon Slaggert was injured late in the preseason. Greene made the most of his opportunity, and he’s stuck with the Blackhawks through their opening 12 games as a result. Moore now has his chance to do the same thing.
Not only was Moore present for the Blackhawks’ morning skate in Seattle, but head coach Jeff Blashill said he expects him to be part of the lineup against the Kraken late on Monday night. Whether Moore will play center, like he did throughout his time with Minnesota, or on the wing, as he did with the Hawks last year and with Rockford early this season, is unknown.
But regardless of which position Moore is slotted into, his blazing speed and two-way abilities fit perfectly with the style of play Blashill wants from his team. It will be exciting to see the impact Moore makes in his season debut in Seattle, and for however long he remains in the NHL with the Blackhawks.
