There is no deadline to add to Dan’s Daily because I am finally back home. The Pittsburgh Penguins made some Tuesday evening moves, putting a trio of players on injured reserve, demoting Owen Pickering, and recalling a trio, too. Elsewhere in the Daily, Pavel Zacha remains the apple of a couple of teams’ eyes on the NHL trade market. The heat around Nazem Kadri is growing, but reports indicate he will reject a trade to the Carolina Hurricanes. And the 10-game milestone looms for several rookies around the league, from the Penguins’ Harrison Brunicke to Michael Misa, and decisions are forthcoming.
I’m not sure what it was about the recent trip, but it was mentally grueling. However, the Penguins can’t buy any green bananas because we’re shoving off for Sweden in five days … landing in six.
If anyone has been to Sweden, I’d love some recommendations. I don’t typically rent a car, so we’re talking Stockholm public transit. What is the food I need to try? What sights/sites do I need to see?
Also, Pittsburgh has good pizza. REALLY good pizza. A slice at Milanos just hit the spot yesterday. Sure, I had a slice in St. Paul and Toronto, but Pittsburgh pizza is a near-perfect combination of thin New York pizza and the doughy Midwest pizza, creating a bigger flavor without being a burden to one’s stomach.

Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: I had a chat with Owen Pickering about his short shifts and that rough start in Winnipeg for both him and Harrison Brunicke. I certainly got the impression he knew it was a rough go this time around in the NHL, and he was pretty honest with us, too. It’s been a rough ride for the young Penguins defensemen.
Once the Penguins got home, it looks like general manager Kyle Dubas started doing paperwork. Surprisingly, the Penguins placed Tristan Jarry on IR following his rough game on Monday, but that also meant that Sergei Murashov got the NHL call. Pickering was sent down, and here is the totality of the Penguins’ transactions.
Also, the AHL named Sergei Murashov the goalie of the month.
NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now
TVA: Reportedly, it’s a poorly kept secret that the Montreal Canadiens and GM Kent Hughes covet the Bruins’ Pavel Zacha. Trades between those two organizations are rare, but not unprecedented. So, will the Canadiens make a move?
Sportsnet: Kyper’s Real Buzz. Nick Kypreos reports that Brendan Shanahan wants back in the game. Kyper also reports that Nazem Kadri trade talk is getting warm, BUT he won’t accept a deal to Carolina.
Poor Carolina. It’s not THAT bad, is it? I mean, it’s not my cup of tea–chain restaurants and suburban sprawl (which many love), but it’s also a peaceful place with nice people and nice weather.
TSN: The Insider Trading guys are talking about the rookies and the 10-game mark, including Harrison Brunicke, Michael Misa, and a few more.
Sportsnet Edmonton: Uh oh. Frustration is building in Edmonton as the Oil blew yet another multi-goal lead and lost. Penguins fans can relate, but the stakes are already high in Edmonton.
Forever Blueshirts: Vitaly Kravstov. First round pick. Future of the Rangers. Now, he’s a bust, and his contract terminated so that he can leave North America. Vancouver said goodbye to the former New York Rangers pick.
Philly Hockey Now: Coach Rick Tocchet has been pounding the table for more physicality and grit from his team. Will James has the full breakdown of the game and the important takeaways. Tocchet got what he wanted Tuesday in a gritty Flyers win.
Florida Hockey Now: Things are getting tough in Florida. The wear and tear of three straight Finals and two straight Cups, the mounting injuries, the emotional happenings outside the team, it’s a lot to handle, and the Anaheim Ducks absolutely railroaded the Florida Panthers Tuesday.
Detroit Hockey Now: The rebuild is OVER. It’s time to put up or shut up. Coach Todd McClellan is challenging the Detroit Red Wings to be great.
