After finishing the preseason with a 2–3 record, the Blues appeared ready to begin their regular season strong. Early in training camp, the team featured several rookies and AHL call-ups, but as the preseason wrapped up, many were reassigned to the Springfield Thunderbirds, allowing the Blues to solidify their opening night roster.

Momentum from two straight preseason wins had St. Louis fans hopeful for opening night. However, the optimism was quickly tested following the season-opening shutout loss.

The Blues responded on the road, earning back-to-back victories in Canada — a 4–2 win over the Calgary Flames and a 5–2 win against the Vancouver Canucks — to even their record.

Returning home for a four-game stand, St. Louis struggled to find consistency. The Blues fell 8–3 to the Chicago Blackhawks before rebounding with a 3–1 win over the Dallas Stars. That victory, however, was followed by a seven-game losing streak that included losses to Los Angeles, Utah, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, and Columbus.

The rough stretch left Blues fans frustrated after what was considered a promising finish to last season.

St. Louis finally snapped its losing streak with a dramatic 3–2 comeback win over the Edmonton Oilers. After trailing 2–0 entering the second period, Dalibor Dvorsky and Robert Thomas were able to find the back of the net to tie the game. Pius Suter sealed the win with a late goal in the final minutes of the third period.

The Blues look to build on that momentum as they visit the Washington Capitals tonight at Capital One Arena at 6:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against the Buffalo Sabres tomorrow at KeyBank Center at 6 p.m.
