The New York Rangers suffered another blow at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, falling 3–0 to the Carolina Hurricanes. The loss dropped New York to 0–5–1 on home ice to start the 2025–26 season.

The Rangers entered the game riding a three-game win streak, including overtime victories on the road against the Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken. But the return to MSG brought back familiar problems.

New York was shut out for the fourth time at home this season and has scored just six total goals in its six home games, five of them coming in a 6-5 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks. Rangers captain J.T. Miller didn’t hide his frustration after the loss.

“It’s not just, ‘We like what we’re doing and we’re getting looks,’” Miller said. “It’s not really cute anymore. It’s been 14 games now, and we’re not executing by capitalizing on our chances, and they’re big moments in the game.”

The 32-year-old forward pointed to himself and took responsibility for another loss in a horrid start to the season in New York.

“I need to be better and to lead better for these guys,” Miller said. “Just not acceptable at home to not get the job done at the end of the day, whether you play well or not.”

Miller said the team liked its play in the first two periods but failed to close out the game.

“More of the same, not scoring on our looks, then they outplay us in the third,” he said. “We were whacking the puck around and didn’t execute in that third period.”

With just two assists at MSG this season and eight points (three goals, five assists) overall, Miller acknowledged his lack of production.

“We’re not making teams cheat the game, especially at home. If they have a lead, they’re going to play the right way, but if we score early, they start playing a different way and you take advantage — like I said, it starts with me,” Miller said. “I need to be better, I need to do something to help drag the team in for a couple extra percentage out there.”

The Rangers dropped to 6–6–2 overall. They face the Detroit Red Wings on the road Friday before returning to MSG to host the New York Islanders on Saturday.
