Filip Hallander’s rookie season will be paused as coach Pittsburgh Penguins Dan Muse announced Thursday morning that Hallander is out day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Hallander, 25, has been filling the role of top-line left winger beside Sidney Crosby. Hallander has played in 13 of the team’s 14 games this season, scoring one goal and adding three assists.

The Penguins placed three players on injured reserve Tuesday, including forwards Noel Acciari and Justin Brazeau. The team recalled Danton Heinen to fill one of the spots.

Thursday morning, the Penguins recalled forward Joona Koppanen from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Koppanen has one goal and one assist in six games for WBS. Last season, he played well in an 11-game run with the Penguins at the end of the season, but scored only one goal.

The Penguins face the Washington Capitals Thursday at PPG Paints Arena.
