Back in July, after signing a new five-year contract, Cam York expressed excitement about possibly joining Trevor Zegras on the power play again.
“I just feel like the familiarity is there and could be a good connection potentially,” York said then.
In reality, though, York probably just wanted to be on the power play again, period. Through only 10 games this season, the 24-year-old defenseman has crushed his power play production from last season.
It didn’t take much because York didn’t score at all on the power play last season. He played just 9:36 minutes on the man advantage, an incomprehensible total considering he was drafted as a power play quarterback.
Jett Luchanko, who was here for only four games last season, saw more minutes on the power play with 10:37.
This season, York already has five points on the power play with a goal and four assists. Zegras is the only Flyer with more power play points at eight (two goals, six assists).
With 20:05 minutes on the power play, York has taken advantage of an opportunity he didn’t have last season. He has also reignited some chemistry he had with Zegras from their days in the U.S. national team development program.
“It’s cool, it’s fun,” Zegras said a week ago. “Being away from him for so long after we were so close growing up. It’s definitely pretty special being out there with him.”
York has two multi-point games this season after not having any last season. The Flyers have to love the early offense, a good sign that York could rebound the way they had hoped this summer.
