Throughout the 2024-25 season several reports surfaced that reveals there was some tension between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, something that continuously spread throughout the Vancouver Canucks organization.
The rift took over headlines throughout the hockey community, ultimately leading to the Canucks organization to trading J.T. Miller on January 31.
Putting an end to the rift, a rift that started to impacted the team’s performance, per Jim Rutherford:
«I don’t believe the issue was limited to just two people,» Rutherford said. «It filtered through most of the team and affected our overall chemistry.»
To this day it still remains unclear what actually triggered all this chaos within the Vancouver Canucks organization, but according to Rutherford, Miller tried his best to fix the situation:
«I genuinely think J.T. tried hard to help fix the situation,» Rutherford said. «Many within our organization worked on it. But once we reached a point where the organization collectively felt the situation couldn’t be fixed, we had to explore all possible options.»
The trade seemed to be the best thing for J.T. Miller, as after he was traded he played in 32 games for the New York Rangers, while managing to tally 13 goals and 22 assists for a total of 35 points while averaging 18:31 minutes of ice time.
However, the New York Rangers must use this offseason to the best of their abilities and truly improve themselves for the next season.
