A St. Louis Blues forward has found himself at the center of trade rumors after being a healthy scratch in the team’s 3-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. The Blues currently sit in last of the Central Division with a 5-8-2 record.

Last season, St. Louis managed to sneak into the playoffs as the second Wild Card team but fell to the Winnipeg Jets in seven games in the opening round. Now, as they prepare to host the Seattle Kraken on Saturday, attention has shifted to their $65 million forward who may be on the trade block.

Who is the $65 million NHL Forward on the Trade Block?

Forward Jordan Kyrou has become the talk of trade discussions amid the Blues’ rough start. Kyrou is in the third season of his eight-year, $65 million contract, but has only managed four goals and four assists through 14 games so far.

His name has been circulating in trade rumors since before the 2025 NHL Draft, particularly since his no-trade clause kicked in on July 1.

NHL analyst Michael Sullivan recently suggested, “If Jordan Kyrou is on the market… Kyrou is a legitimate top 6 offensive threat that could slide right into your second line and address the weakest link of your team”.

Fans had mixed reactions to the idea of Jordan Kyrou being on the trade block. One fan asked, “Yeh, why is he sitting on a last-place team. And that makes him the 2nd-highest paid player on the team. Geekie just signed multi-year at $5.5m Zacha at $4.75m how’s that gonna play out. Nope.”

Another floated the idea of the Maple Leafs trading Nick Robertson, “Leafs: Robertson and a 1st for Kyrou 25%retained.”

One questioned how teams could even make the deal work under the cap, “They would have to send a lot of salary back to make it work”. A fan also emphasized Kyrou’s versatility: “He can also play center if needed. Cannot understand how St. Louis can scratch their best player outside of Thomas.”

Another doubted how a team could afford Kyrou’s $8 million cap hit: “Who’s going to pay for the $8 million, considering they only have $1.7 million in cap space?”

Meanwhile, a Bruins fan chimed in, admitting, “The Bruins would need to send money out to make the salaries work. It wouldn’t be an easy deal to make. STL would likely not want to retain salary for 5 years. ”

Whether the Blues are genuinely considering moving Kyrou or just testing the market, scratching him this early in the season has only fueled more speculation about his future in St. Louis.
