Buffalo Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin went through a lot this past off-season, and now, he’s taking a leave of absence to be with his partner.

The Buffalo Sabres are off to a very up-and-down start in 2025/26, and while hopes remain high for the organization in finally ending their post-season drought, they’ve got some very tough competition ahead of them in the Atlantic Division.

Now, things have been made even harder for them moving forward, as Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin has reportedly taken a leave of absence from the NHL, stepping away to be with his fiancee, according to comments from Head Coach Lindy Ruff.

Rasmus Dahlin Takes Time Off To Be With His Partner

This comes on the back of a very difficult summer for the two, with Dahlin’s partner going through some very tough
physical trauma
, and although she recovered before the season began, clearly, Dahlin is making sure that she is okay and as he should, prioritizing her over anything.

Of course there are those that won’t agree, but life for these players is so much more than hockey, with the organization clearly seeing that too as they put all their support behind their captain as he goes through what must be a very tough time in his life.

As of right now, the statement from Lindy Ruff does not reveal a timetable for Dahlin’s return, but the veteran Head Coach shows nothing but support for his star captain, and for now, we can only await further details on the situation as the Sabres will continue to battle through without their best player.
