The most recent loss to the Chicago Blackhawks might have been the final straw for the Vancouver Canucks, despite some talent on the roster it may be time for Jim Rutherford and Patrick Allvin to commit to a full rebuild.

“Rick Dhaliwal was asked about the potential for the organization to undergo a rebuild. Dhaliwal said that the team’s ownership group, led by Francesco Aquilini will not allow one to go through for a number of different reasons, one being that it would likely mean both Quinn Hughes and President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford will depart the club.”-Jaxon

There’s no way around it the Canucks need a rebuild.

Clarke Corsan of Canucks Army covered the idea of the Canucks committing to a full rebuild. They have virtually no chance at the Stanley Cup, and a trade for a 2nd line center like Pavel Zacha or Nazem Kadri isn’t going to turn the whole team around. Especially with how strong the draft class is this year, the Canucks should maximize their chances at players like Gavin McKenna. On Thursday’s episode of Canucks Conversation, David Quadrelli and Harman Dayal tackled the topic of a rebuild.

“We often think through the lens of ‘this organization won’t rebuild,’ so we don’t talk about it. We’ve looked at it as, what can this team do to get there without a rebuild? I’m at the point now where, best case scenario, this team can’t get to a point where they’re contending for a Stanley Cup without a full rebuild. You have to do the hard work and go through those painful years.”-Quadrelli

While the Canucks have been going through a lot of pain dating all the way back to 2011 when they lost in the Stanley Cup final. Trying to force this roster to over achieving just won’t cut it, there are way too many better teams in this league, to hope something is going to change with this roster.

“We often think through the lens of ‘this organization won’t rebuild,’ so we don’t talk about it,» Quads said. «We’ve looked at it as, what can this team do to get there without a rebuild? I’m at the point now where, best case scenario, this team can’t get to a point where they’re contending for a Stanley Cup without a full rebuild. You have to do the hard work and go through those painful years.”-Dayal

The Canucks have almost no hope for this season, and for the next few years coming, they should cut their losses now and take advantage of the strong draft classes ahead.
