A National Hockey League insider believes that teams may begin to call up Patrik Allvin about on of the team’s forwards if their slow start to the season continues.

It hasn’t been the start to the 2025-26 season that the Vancouver Canucks or their fans were hoping for as the club sits seventh in the Pacific Division with record of 7-8-0 through 15 games and the Calgary Flames as the only team behind them in the standings.

As we’ve mentioned before, with the importance of American Thanksgiving and team’s chances of making it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, things need to turn around in a big way for Adam Foote’s group over the next few weeks, but if they don’t, it looks like the club could be getting calls on a couple of their top forwards.

NHL insider believes teams may call Vancouver Canucks about star forward

While making an appearance on Halford & Brough on Friday morning, National Hockey League insider and co-host of Donnie & Dhali Rick Dhaliwal shared that if the Vancouver Canucks aren’t able to right the ship over their next seven games, look for teams to start calling them up about Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland.

“If they have a tough stretch in the next 7 games, teams are going to start calling them on Sherwood and Garland.” Dhaliwal said.

It wouldn’t come as a shock to many if the Vancouver Canucks were to use Kiefer Sherwood as a trade chip in the weeks and months ahead as the two sides are reportedly in a contract stalemate, with Patrik Allvin & Co. a bit hesitant to dole out the month to the Columbus, Ohio native and given his start to the season, he could net the club a decent haul.As for Conor Garland, his name being brought up by Rick Dhaliwal caught some by surprise, especially since he signed a six-year, $36 million extension, that kicks in next season, during the summer, signalling that the club believes he’s a big part of their future.

However, with Garland’s start to the 2025-26 season (11 points in 12 games) and his relatively low salary when considering the NHL’s salary cap is expected to rise in the years ahead, it could make the 29-year-old a very attractive piece leading up to the deadline on March 6th and much like Sherwood, net Patrik Allvin a great return.

In a perfect world, the Vancouver Canucks will be able to find a way to turn things around in November, claw their way back into the playoff picture in the Western Conference and not have to worry about entertaining offers for guys like Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland, but if things go south, there could be a pretty big sell-off in the Lower Mainland.
