Okay. So playing the Sharks in retrospect was a terrible idea. They’re on a win streak now. So let’s try to relax and play a team that is actively struggling to do much of anything resembling consistent momentum.
Kinda like St. Louis!
The Blues have been in a pretty hard rut to start November; they win one game, immediately lose the next, win one game big, get blown out bad and your goalie decides to be an annoying prick about the milestone Alex Ovechkin gets. Then turn straight around and blank the Sabres. This back and forth believe it or not is actually an improvement over where they were when the month started, so if the Kraken simply appear as a good version of themselves, they should have this in the bag.
If there’s one thing the Kraken need to watch out for, it is the Blues’ net-front presence. The Blues seem to shoot almost exclusively from the net-front if they can help it, and love setting up rebound opportunities with exploratory shots. If they can keep that to a minimum, they can halt the Blues offense dead in it’s tracks. Their power play is kind of bad, so 5v5 is how they’re going to be trying to score 90% of their goals.
More importantly, the Kraken desperately need to start actively controlling their games. The Blues have the nasty tendency to find ways to win late, so Seattle must keep them pinned to the ice for 60 minutes. Blinking against them, even with their issues, is not an option.
Still, it’s a great chance to get right, and the Kraken can absolutely get right here. Let’s see how they react!
LET’S GO KRAKEN, LET’S GO SQUIDS!
