Missing their No. 1 defenseman and a second-line forward didn’t derail the Bruins’ winning streak.
Mikey Eyssimont had to wait through a long replay review for his fourth goal of the season to become official, but once it was deemed a good goal, the Bruins never looked back en route to a 5-3 win, their sixth straight, over the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Saturday.
The teams scored three goals in less than a minute in the first. Nick Robertson scored 3:12 into the game, but Morgan Geekie tied the game 18 seconds later. Twenty seconds after that, Viktor Arvidsson put Boston up 2-1.
Matias Maccelli tied the game before the first intermission.
Eyssimont had to wait to have the puck, which he jammed under Anthony Stolarz to be ruled good, but Boston didn’t have to wait long for the next one as David Pastrnak darted through the Toronto defense and tucked the puck behind Stolarz. It gave Pastrnak’s 399 career goals and gave Stolarz an early seat as Boston pulled ahead 4-2.
Dennis Hildeby replaced him for the rest of the game.
John Tavares cut the Bruins’ lead to 4-3 late in the second period, making most of the third period feel anxious.
But Fraser Minten slammed the door on his former team, converting a pass from Mark Kastelic with 3:02 left.
Jeremy Swayman continued his recent success with 30 saves.
