Former Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill is returning to Little Caesars Arena today (1 p.m. FanDuel Sports Network) for the first time since becoming the  Chicago Blackhawks head coach.

He’s bringing in a Blackhawks team that feels good about itself. That is the worrisome part for the Red Wings.

“(The Blackhawks’) overall confidence level is much higher because they’ve earned the right to be confident. And I said it starts with (Connor) Bedard, but they have structure right now that allows them to predict where things are going to go,” Detroit coach Todd McLellan said.

The Blackhawks are 7-5-3. This game is the Blackhawks’ final game on a six-game road trip. They are 2-2-1 thus far on the tip.

“That whole coaching staff has done a good job of molding that team quickly,” McLellan said. “They have some very, very good young players. They’ve stockpiled them for a while and they’re starting to mature, too. But all that’s done with Blash’s
guidance, so I think he’s done a real good job.”

Detroit players are not surprised by Blashill’s success.

“He’s shown he has a really good touch with young players,” Detroit defenseman Moritz Seider said.  “I think (Lucas Raymond) and I learned a lot with him, under him. He was always honest, very direct, wasn’t afraid to be in the moment…I think guys really appreciated him as a human.”
