The Oilers were completely dominated on Saturday night, and now Connor McDavid has revealed the details behind a tense talk at Sunday practice.

By now, most NHL fans have digested the 9-1 victory that the Colorado Avalanche had over the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, with the two-time defending Western Conference Champions rocked at home.

Captain Connor McDavid has since admitted that it was a humbling defeat, but simply accepting that isn’t enough, as many fans have called for changes to this Oilers roster following such a disappointing performance.

McDavid Addressed Practice Talk

On Sunday, the team were back at it as they took the ice for practice, and after which, video emerged of some very tense scenes on the ice in Edmonton, with tensions growing despite many seeing this as a normal interaction between a frustrated group.

After practice, McDavid addressed what happened in that scene, admitting that the team have felt unorganized as of late, and that type of stuff only gets worked out by talking, which is what was exactly shown on that video posted to social media.

Everybody as a whole wants to be better, myself included. Normal to have conversations with guys about different things we see out there. The game has felt, at times, unorganized, out of sync. You only figure that stuff out through talking and communicating with your teammates.

Hopefully for the Oilers sake, the team can talk through things as they’ve been very frustrated as a group in recent games despite sitting at 6-6-4 through 16 games in 2025/26, but if things continue to go downhill, the Oilers may have a tough time digging themselves out of their slow start.
