The Chicago Blackhawks (8-5-3) beat the Detroit Red Wings (9-7-0) at the Little Caesars Arena on Sunday 5-1 as five different Blackhawks found the back of the net. Connor Bedard had a goal and two assists while goaltender Arvid Soderblom stopped a career-high 45 saves in the winning effort.
First period
Bedard gave Chicago the early 1-0 lead with a nasty wrist shot from the right circle that beat Detroit goaltender John Gibson, who stopped 15 shots in the loss at home. Bedard’s goal, his ninth of the season, was assisted by defenseman Artyom Levshunov and forward Teuvo Teravainen at the 0:59 mark of the opening frame.

Chicago would score an empty-net goal at the 16:37 mark of the final period when Burakovsky scored his seventh goal of the season. Bedard found Burakovsky at his own blue line and bounced in an empty-netter as Detroit was trying to find some offense down two goals. The goal was assisted by Bedard and Crevier. That assist would temporarily put Bedard atop the NHL’s point scoring list.

After a six-game road trip, Chicago is back on home ice on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. CST against the New Jersey Devils at the United Center.
Analysis
Chicago scored on all three of their power plays and that will always be a recipe for success. The Blackhawks have started to move the puck and keep their skates moving a lot better over the past few games, making them difficult to defend with the man advantage.
Soderblom stopped 45 shots in a career game for the 26-year-old Swedish goaltender. Soderblom and Spencer Knight continue to give Chicago good-to-great goaltending most nights.
Bedard is near the top of the league scoring race with nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 16 games this season. The 20-year-old is just scratching the surface when it comes to his talents and that is a very scary thing for opponents.
