Gina Miller, a longtime, award-winning North Texas broadcast journalist-turned FC Dallas vice president, is joining the Dallas Mavericks as chief communications officer.

In the newly created position, Dallas native Miller, 51, will oversee communications of the organization’s basketball and corporate/broadcast operations. In past years the Mavericks have had vice presidents separately overseeing those departments.

Since 2015, Miller had been with FC Dallas, ultimately rising to vice president of broadcasting, media and communications. Until recently she also freelanced for NBC 5 as a sports anchor.

FC Dallas’ season ended on Nov. 1 when it was ousted from the playoffs by Vancouver. Although Miller’s tenure with that organization officially ends, she and FC Dallas CEO Dan Hunt will continue to co-host on Fox 4 The Kick, a World Cup-focused show that will air through the 2026 World Cup.

“I’ve been a lifelong Mavs fan,” Miller told The Dallas Morning News. “And having done Mavs TV for so long with Derek Harper, and having covered the team for so long, it’s just a perfectly natural fit to join the team in this role. I’m really excited about it, and I look forward to all that’s ahead.”

Miller graduated from Lakehill Preparatory School and the University of Houston.

“Growing up, I had a James Donaldson poster on my wall next to my Doomsday Defense poster – over my Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls,” she said. “Tom Thumb gave away James Donaldson posters so you could measure your height against a seven-footer.”

While at Houston she interned with the Rockets, earning an NBA Championship ring for the 1994-95 season and launching her media career.

In 1999, Miller joined the Cowboys in their TV department. While working for the Cowboys she freelanced at CBS 11, then joined WFAA Channel 8 in the summer of 2003. From 2005 to 2013 she was back at CBS 11 and in 2015 she was with KCBS in Los Angeles.

Through much of her broadcast and sports franchise careers, Miller has been a broadcast coach and sought-after public speaker, serving as emcee or panel moderator for organizations including FIFA, the PGA Tour, the Cowboys, the Rangers and American Heart Association.
