BOSTON — After spending his first nine seasons in Boston, Brandon Carlo faced the Bruins as a foe for the first time in Toronto on Saturday night.
Traded to the Maple Leafs at last year’s deadline, Carlo was a -2 in Toronto’s 5-3 loss at Scotiabank Arena.
During his first matchup with the Bruins, Carlo said it wasn’t a specific play, but a familiar voice that provided his most memorable moment of the night.
“There was one time I got a puck out in the neutral zone, and I was pulling it back. Pasta was just yelling at me like, ‘Brando! Brando! Brando!’ trying to make me nervous,” Carlo said. “That was kinda funny. It’s fun to have those kinds of relationships as well and I appreciate that from him, keeping it light. It was great to see those guys and weird to play against them.”
Carlo is set to take on the Bruins in Boston for the first time on Tuesday night. At Toronto’s morning skate ahead of the game, the 28-year-old defenseman was asked what his best memory was of playing in TD Garden.
“In this rink specifically, I would say — even though it didn’t end the way we wanted to — just that playoff run in 2019,“ Carlo said. ”Going through that. The experience in general. Just the way that we were able to go pretty far in that year and experience a lot of great moments with those playoff wins and things like that. I definitely enjoyed that.
“But there’s definitely so many moments to speak of outside of that as well that I really enjoyed being here. A lot of great memories, which is good.”
