Cole Caufield has been one of the best goal scorers in the NHL in recent years, but according to Pierre LeBrun, he’s not a lock to make Team USA’s Olympic roster.

The 2026 Olympic Games are right around the corner, and with just a few months to go, the rosters for the best nations in the world with NHL’s return to the Olympics are starting to be put together.

For the most part, there’s some big, but easy decisions to make for most nations, but with so much talent across the league and the world, there’s going to be some major snubs to worry about.

Pierre LeBrun makes shock prediction on Cole Caufield

Heading into the Olympic period, it appears as though Team USA are going to be stacked once again, so much so that there are only so many forward spots to go around.

On the back of 37 goals a year ago and 12 in 15 games this season, many expected Montreal Canadiens star Cole Caufield to have a starting role with Team USA, but that may not be the case after all, according to TSN’s Pierre LeBrun.Right now, I would tell you that according to my information, if the American team were announced today, Cole Caufield would not be part of it.

From what I understand from the American team’s management, they are wondering where to put him in the lineup. All the spots in the top-6 of the American team. It will be difficult to find a role for Cole Caufield.

It’s unclear exactly why Caufield would not make the United States roster, as the 24-year old is not only a player with a very bright future, but has already produced at a very high level, potentially giving the USA goalscoring at a level they’ve not seen for quite some time.

If he continues to play at a high level in 2025/26 heading into the Olympics, there’s a chance that this changes, but if Team USA make this decision and don’t come away with a gold medal, it will be a decision that’s questioned for years.
