The road through the NCAA is now the dominant developmental path for Calgary Flames prospects, and the organization is being rewarded for it, with a handful of early prospects looking like draft steals. Russian prospects also continue their strong developmental seasons within the Flames organization.
Let’s take a look at this past week for Flames prospects.
Welcome to The Win Column’s Calgary Flames prospect update. Each week, we’ll take a dive into how the Flames’ prospects have done in their respective leagues and feature one standout prospect. We have defined a prospect as a skater who has played fewer than 65 NHL games and is younger than 25 years of age.
All data is from QuantHockey and EliteProspects.
Cole Reschny, C, University of North Dakota, NCAA
Reschny was the first Flames draftee of the 2025 draft, so he’s likely a name that Flames fans are familiar with. The 2007-born forward looks to have adjusted nicely to the NCAA for this season, after making the jump early from the WHL’s Victoria Royals.
The 5’10 forward’s game is that of a playmaker with touches of two-way-forward that make him a high quality down-low creator, and forecheck fiend.
His game is highlighted by a strong compete level, silky smooth puck skills, and high end hockey IQ/senses. His skating, physicality, and shooting are areas of improvement. The young forward looks to have taken a step forward recently especially when it comes to offensive timing and NCAA pace.
Reschny’s step forward is most evident in his past couple weeks, where his deception, timing, and vision has allowed him to manipulate mature NCAA defenders and open up space for both himself and his teammates leading to higher end chance generation and offensive output. Reschny is up to 10 points in 10 NCAA games as a freshman this season, including a monster week where he amassed five points in just two games.
There’s always an adjustment period when players move to a different league, and Reschny looks to have found his groove nicely. He still projects to be a second-line forward for the Calgary Flames.
Calgary Flames prospect updates
AHL
The Wranglers had a rough past week, dropping a pair of games against the San Jose Barracuda. Calgary lost 4–3 on the 6th and 4–1 on the 8th.
The Calgary Wranglers are currently 4th in the AHL’s Pacific division with a 6–4–2 record.
Kerins and Gridin remain the top two prospects for the Wranglers in points with 13 and 11, respectively.
Defender Etienne Morin had a week full of Air-Miles as he was assigned to Rapid City on the 5th, appeared in two games in the ECHL, and then got re-assigned to the Wranglers on the 9th.
ECHL
The Rapid City Rush continued to look for some consistency this past week, but went 1–1–1 in their trio of games against the Lake Tahoe Knight Monsters on the 5th, 7th, and 8th. They collected their sole win in their last game.
Rapid City sits in last place of the ECHL’s Mountain division with a 4–5–1 record.
Calgary Wranglers defensive prospect Etienne Morin was assigned to the Rush on November 5th. Morin made his ECHL debut on the 7th and appeared in two games.
Goaltending prospect Arsenii Sergeev appeared in one of the Rush’s three games this past week, a 5–3 loss on the 7th.
NCAA
Mace’o Phillips played a pair of games against the Madison Capitols this past week and went +2 and had five shots on goal. His defensive awareness is slowly growing as the season goes on, but watch for his discipline to be an area of concern as he gets ready for the NCAA.
Eric Jamieson played games on the 7th and 8th against Western Michigan University. The Flames’ 2024 6th-rounder continues to find his shooting and offensive instincts as the season goes on, making him a more complete threat in all three zones. He netted a goal against Western Michigan University on the 7th.
Flames 2025 6th rounder, Aidan Lane, continues to get into the NCAA groove with Harvard. He scored a goal against Cornell University on the 7th and played a season-high 16:18 against Colgate University on the 8th.
2025 1st rounder, Cullen Potter, played Colorado College on the 7th and 8th. In the latter game, he had a career high 23:04, and even found the back of the net. The American two-way forward continues to show his high-end skating, mixed with timing and senses, has translated well to the NCAA.
Trevor Hoskin continues to be a point-per-game player at the NCAA level, playing on the 7th and 8th against Boston University, where he collected an assist in each game. He now enters this next week on a three-game point streak in his sophomore season.
2025 18th overall pick Cole Reschny had a monster of a week, where he played games against the University of Nebraska-Omaha on the 7th and 8th, where he collected five points. For the first time in this 2025–2026 campaign, Reschny is now a point per game.
Ethan Wyttenbach continues to look like a draft steal this year. The 2025 5th round forward appeared in a game against Yale on the 7th and against Brown University on the 8th. He collected an assist in each, and now enters this week on a three-game point streak.
OHL
Jacob Battaglia’s Kingston Frontenacs finally broke their losing streak in his third game of the week, where they played the Kitchener Rangers on the 9th. Battaglia contributed the second goal of the game too, in their 3–2 victory.
WHL
Hunter Laing and the Saskatoon Blades are now on a five-game losing streak after their two-game streak this past week. In the Blades’ first game, a 6–5 loss against the Moose Jaw Warriors, Laing found the scoresheet with a goal and an assist. The power forward remains a consistent offensive threat this season.
Russia
2023 6th-round goaltender Yegor Yegorov appeared in a single game on November 7th against MHK Atlant Mytishchi. The 20-year-old goalie secured the 4–3 win and stopped 33/36 shots he faced.
2024 3rd round goaltender, Kirill Zarubin, played two games this past week. His MHL win streak got to five, but it ended this past week on the 6th in a 2–1 loss to Amurskie Tigry Khabarovsk. Across two starts, he stopped 45/49.
