Vancouver Canucks News and Notes:

If the Vancouver Canucks want to convert on a massive upset tonight, they have to attack and tire out the goaltending quickly. This Hurricanes team has been on the lower end of point production, with Sebastian Aho leading the team with just 16 points, and has been coasting on spectacular goaltending. Whereas the Canucks have three-plus goals in four of their last five games and can get on the board at a high clip compared to Carolina. However, Vancouver has been the opposite of consistent this season with an incredibly middle-of-the-pack record of 8-9-1, as well as coming off a 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, where they kept up but just could not find control of the game despite production from their top guys, Elias Pettersson, Kiefer Sherwood, and Quinn Hughes.

Carolina Hurricanes News and Notes:

The Carolina Hurricanes are currently sitting tied for second place in the entire Eastern Conference, just behind the New Jersey Devils, but they could not get any momentum against the Washington Capitals in their last matchup on Tuesday. Hurricanes newcomer Nikolaj Ehlers was able to snatch the only goal in that game, but it ended in a prompt 4-1 loss to Washington. Carolina has to get their heavy hitters like Seth Jarvis, Sebastian Aho, and Logan Stankoven going if they want to capitalize in a lower-seeded, yet high-scoring matchup against Vancouver.

Players to Watch:

Vancouver Canucks:

Brock Boeser has been on a tear for the Vancouver Canucks as of late, notching four goals in his last five games, including one against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday. He looks to continue his three game point streak in tonight’s matchup. Quinn Hughes is looking to continue a point streak of his own as he’s sitting at a point in his last four games, while also putting up an assist on all three goals in their matchup, as well as bringing his point total up to six since coming back from his lower-body injury in early November. Vancouver desperately needs to find some momentum to get back in the playoff race, and knocking off one of the best teams in the league currently would be a phenomenal place to start. These two men would be essential in doing so.

Carolina Hurricanes:

If there was a weakness of this loaded Carolina Hurricanes roster, it would be the slow start of veteran forward Andrei Svechnikov. The long-time Hurricane has just seven points through sixteen games this season, but on the bright side, he’s managed to grab four points in his last four games, looking like the Svechnikov of old. On the other hand, a quiet, extremely productive member of the Hurricanes through the start of the season has been veteran defender Shayne Gostisbehere. Gostisbehere just got back from injury in Tuesday’s matchup against the Washington Capitals, and through just seven games, he has a goal and seven assists, including one assist in that game against the Capitals. In one of his best starts of his career, Gostisbehere is a constant offensive threat when he’s on the ice, rivalling the production of Vancouver’s star defenseman, Quinn Hughes.
