The Winnipeg Jets’ opening goal of Saturday’s game stung a little extra for the Calgary Flames.
Mark Scheifele potted his 12th goal of the season in the second period after breaking free in the Flames’ zone following a collision at the other end by Calgary teammates Sam Honzek and Mikael Backlund.
Backlund stayed upright on the play and managed to stay on the ice.
The 21-year-old Honzek saw 7:05 of ice time and handed out two hits before leaving the game.
In 17 contests this season, Honzek has two goals and four points for the last-place Flames. Drafted 16th overall by Calgary in the 2023 draft, the six-foot-four forward is in his first full season with the team. In 2024-25, he made his NHL debut but played only five games.
