A Detroit Red Wings prospect is currently standing out in the SHL, emerging as a top NHL prospect.

The Detroit Red Wings organization drafted well in recent years, and the 2025 draft is no exception.

In Los Angeles during the draft, Eddie Genborg was acquired by Steve Yzerman and it’s proving to be one of his biggest steals in recent years.

Their two top picks of the latest draft, Carter Bear and Eddie Genborg, are turning heads in their respective leagues.

But recently, Genborg has made headlines for his steady two-way contributions in the Swedish Hockey League with Timra, playing under former Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg, who works as the team’s sporting director.

Genborg’s offensive skills are already known. This season, at only 18 years old, the forward tallied 13 points, including seven goals, in 20 games.

On Saturday, he showed the defensive and physical sides of his game. Even though he didn’t add his name to the scoresheet, he was engaged offensively, on the forecheck, and on the backcheck as well. He also protected the puck well and played a role in changing the momentum of the game.

Jonathan Dahlén, Timra’s leading scorer, recently opened up on Genborg’s skills in a recent interview:

“He is a fantastic talent. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen someone his age be so good in all aspects of the game.

He is a great player and person who works hard every day.”

Genborg will be a free agent after the 2026-27 season. He is expected to sign an entry-level contract by then and come to North America to pursue his development, either with the Grand Rapids Griffins or the Detroit Red Wings.
