The Oilers are entering the fourth game of a seven game road trip. They have a 2-1 record on the trip after a 4-3 OT win in Carolina on Saturday night. It was Zach Hyman’s season debut, first game since Round 3 of the Playoffs last season, and he finished that night with an assist and 11 hits.

The Sabres snapped a five game losing streak with a 5-4 OT win against the Red Wings on Saturday night. They have the lowest point total in the Eastern Conference standings. Despite their struggles, they’ve also been the best penalty killing team in the league.

Alex Tuch leads his team with 15 points in 17 games, playing on their top line with Tage Thompson and former Oiler Ryan McLeod. There were rumors in October that the Oilers would look at trading for Tuch if he chose not to re-sign in Buffalo.

Matt Savoie was drafted 9th overall by the Sabres in 2022 and was traded to the Oilers for McLeod in 2024. He’s been promoted to Edmonton’s top line with Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman, in place of the injured Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He has 5 points in 20 games so far this season.
