The Dallas Mavericks will be without Anthony Davis for a little while longer.
The team announced Sunday that Davis is making “good progress” with his recovery from a left calf strain and he will be reevaluated in another 7-10 days. Davis has missed the last eight games since he suffered a left calf strain against the Indiana Pacers on Oct. 29.
Davis was listed as questionable this week against the Phoenix Suns and LA Clippers, but downgraded for Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd was asked how Davis is handling his latest injury.
“He wants to play. He’s doing everything to get back,” Kidd said during his pregame news conference. “For AD, I’m not trying to speak for him but he wants to be out there to help us. but this gives him 7-10 days to get better and hopefully in 7-10 days he’s back on the floor.”

The latest medical update rules Davis out of the Mavericks’ next six games, which includes a three-game homestand this week. According to Davis’ new timeline, the earliest he could return to the lineup is Nov. 24 against at home against the Miami Heat. The first game beyond the 10-day mark is when the Mavericks play the Lakers in Los Angeles for the first time this season on Nov. 28.
The Mavericks are 1-7 without Davis, who’s averaged 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks in five games this season. Without him in the lineup, Cooper Flagg has led the team in scoring with 16.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game since Oct. 29.
Sunday’s game marks Flagg’s 14th game with the Mavericks, equaling the same amount of regular season games Davis has played since he was acquired on Feb. 1.
