The Detroit Red Wings should claim Elmira, New York-born forward John Beecher from the Boston Bruins before the 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time Zone deadline on Tuesday.
This would be a great waiver claim for the Red Wings, as they could add meaningful depth to their bottom six.
The former 30th overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft has played a total of 136 games in the NHL, all of them with the Bruins.
NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman:
The Detroit Red Wings Could Claim Former Boston Bruins 1st-round pick John Beecher
Elliotte Friedman would break the news while live on the Donnie and Dhali show today, while discussing the Pacific Division team, the Vancouver Canucks.
Beecher has a gritty style of play and isn’t afraid of playing a two-hundred-foot game.
“Sam Cosentino – SportsNet – Oct. 2nd: “One of the more cerebral players in this draft class in that he’s not flashy and doesn’t dazzle you with any particular part of his game. However, with his size and ability to play a complete game, he almost always finds a way to contribute.”
Here’s where you get an idea of where he could slot into the lineup for the Red Wings on the bottom six as a replacement for Copp or Compher when they do decide to move on from them.
And at the age of 22, Beecher would fit perfectly into the team’s rebuild timeline, which is ongoing.
In 136 games for the Bruins, Beecher has scored 22 points (11-11) and has yet to reach his full potential in the NHL.
