Soderblom starts, Bertuzzi sits, and Roman Kantserov stays hot as the Blackhawks prepare to face the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
The Chicago Blackhawks host the Calgary Flames tonight at 7:30 p.m. CT, and you need to catch up on some Hawks news and updates. You can find out all the information about tonight’s game here. First, let’s go over some news from morning skate and some prospect updates.
Morning Skate
Arvid Soderblom will get the start tonight, and Tyler Bertuzzi did not participate in this morning’s practice (according to Scott Powers). Soderblom deserves some recognition for his goaltending. Despite only starting five games, he’s posted a respectable 4.5 goals saved above average (21st overall on Money Puck) and has a .913 SV%. Bertuzzi last played against the New Jersey Devils on Nov. 12 and has missed one game since. He’s been one of the better top-six wingers for the Hawks with nine goals and 15 points in 16 games.

Roman Kantserov
I’m not one to get too excited over prospects—but Roman Kantserov is a reason for serious intrigue. The Russian forward is tearing up the KHL. Kantserov has 18 goals and 30 points through 28 games with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. At 21 years old, Kantserov is third overall in points and leads the league in goals. That’s impressive. Kantserov is expected to sign with the Chicago Blackhawks following the end of the KHL season, towards the end of March. Depending on his team’s postseason outlook, it could be possible that we see Kantserov alongside Connor Bedard this season. Bedard still needs a skilled wing, and Kantersov might be that.

Around the NHL
The Toronto Maple Leafs are struggling (as the Blackhawks experienced last Saturday). General manager Brad Treliving addressed the media on Tuesday morning with a message that boiled down to “no excuses, the answer will come from within the dressing room.”
Drew Doughty is week-to-week for the Los Angeles Kings after taking a shot to his foot in Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators. The Kings won 1-0 and have had a resurgence after a slow start to their season.
More Kings news: Andrian Kempe signed for eight years with a $10.625 million AAV. Kempe was a pending free agent, which looks to be another bare market this summer.
Matthew Schaeffer is having an incredible rookie season. Through 19 games, he leads all defensemen in goals (seven) and all rookie skaters in points (15). The New York Islanders visit the Dallas Stars at 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
