The New York Rangers (10-8-2) visit the Vegas Golden Knights (8-4-6) tonight at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Rangers continue to lean heavily on their defensive structure and goaltending, ranking 2nd in the NHL in save percentage (.922) and 2nd in goals against per game (2.45).
Jonathan Quick has been outstanding as a tandem option (1.42 GAA, .951 SV%), while Igor Shesterkin remains steady (2.39 GAA, .912 SV%). But New York’s biggest concern is still scoring: they sit in the bottom three in goals per game (2.50), relying on Artemi Panarin (18 points) and Mika Zibanejad (7 goals) to drive most of their production.
Their recent form, however, has been strong. The Rangers are 4-1-0 in their last five, including wins over the Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators, and the New York Islanders before Sunday’s narrow 2–1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
Vegas enters trending in the opposite direction. The Golden Knights have dropped four of their last five, including a 3-2 overtime loss in Minnesota, and they’re a middling 4-3-3 at home.
Offensively, they’re much stronger than New York on paper: 3.17 goals per game and a top-10 power play (23.1%). But their goaltending has slipped. Akira Schmid owns a .900 SV%, while Aidan Hill (.888) and Carl Lindbom (.874) have struggled to stabilize things behind a defense allowing more goals (2.89 GA/G) and more shots than New York.
Vegas still carries threats at the top of the lineup. Jack Eichel leads the matchup with 24 points and 16 assists, and Pavel Dorofeyev has 11 goals, but the Golden Knights have lacked finish and consistency late in games.
Prediction
Expect a tight, controlled game where defense and goaltending matter more than sheer offense. Vegas holds a slight edge thanks to its home-ice and offensive upside, but the Rangers’ defensive structure keeps this very much in play.
Projected Final Score: Golden Knights 4, Rangers 3
