Stars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns provide the bulk of the scoring, while the rest of the lineup makes up for the defensive deficiencies that are evident with those two on the floor. One notable change has been the emergence of reliable bench scoring, with guards Jordan Clarkson and Landry Shamet both averaging more than 10.0 points on the year. The Mavericks are not an easy out, requiring New York to play in sync to grab a win on the road.
Almost all of former general manager Nico Harrison’s talk about building a defensively sound, championship roster has already flown out the window. Harrison’s ideas were, of course, absurd to begin with, but things look even worse than anyone anticipated. The prized piece of the Luka Dončić trade, forward Anthony Davis, is already injured, playing only five games this season. Guard Kyrie Irving is still recovering from an ACL tear, leaving the Mavs undermanned and outgunned against almost every team they face. Wednesday’s matchup is no exception.

The lines clearly expect Brunson to take the floor on Wednesday, a massive victory for the Knicks. However, New York has struggled on the road, losing all four of its games away from Madison Square Garden. It is hard to endorse a team that has been so bad away from home as any sort of favorite. One of Dallas’s centers should play, shortening an extensive injury report, while former first overall pick Cooper Flagg will once again contribute the bulk of the scoring.
