Alex Steeves’ last shift of the first period was an eventful one for the recent Bruins’ call-up.

Just moments after breaking in on a 2-on-0 breakaway with Nikita Zadorov (who was robbed by Lukas Dostal), Steeves was trading punches in his first fight in the NHL with 28 seconds left in the period.

The short skirmish began when Steeves shoved Vatrano in the back into the Bruins bench and the East Longmeadow native and UMass product didn’t like it and shoved him back.

The two locked up quickly. Steeves landed a short right and Vatrano grabbed Steeves and threw him to the ice as the linesmen jumped in.

According to HockeyFights.com, it was just the fourth fight of Vatrano’s career, although the second this season. He traded punches with Nashville’s Ozzy Wiesblatt earlier this year.
