Tage Thompson scored for the fourth straight game, but the Buffalo Sabres couldn’t slow down the Calgary Flames in a 6-2 loss Wednesday night at KeyBank Center.

Calgary jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Buffalo answered in the second period. Mattias Samuelsson cut the deficit in half with a point shot through traffic, and Thompson followed with a onetimer from the point to tie the game. The momentum didn’t last, as the Flames regained control in the third.

Just 2:02 into the final period, Morgan Frost finished a backdoor feed to put Calgary back in front, igniting a run of three unanswered Flames goals. Joel Farabee led the way with two goals, while Rasmus Andersson recorded a four-point night from the blue line. Calgary also received multi-point efforts from Frost, Matt Coronato, Yegor Sharangovich, and Nazem Kadri. Devin Cooley stopped 28 shots in the win.

Colten Ellis made his third consecutive start for Buffalo and finished with 29 saves on 35 shots. The Sabres entered the night on a two-game win streak but couldn’t keep pace after the early third-period surge by Calgary.
