Even though the Oilers have been struggling like the Caps to start the season, the Caps needed to bring their A game because the Oilers have arguably the two best players in the world in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The Caps did a great job taking four different two-goal leads – and though they didn’t finish strong they still had to do what they needed to get the win against the talented Oilers.
Plus: The Caps have been hard put at finding scoring this season. All the guys that have been on goal droughts came up big tonight. Getting two goals from Ryan Leonard, one from Anthony Beauvillier, and one from Aliaksei Protas came at the right time. Hopefully this is the start of these guys scoring more consistently.
Minus: Every time the Caps took a two goal lead they got a little too lackadaisical which allowed the Oilers to come back within one goal four different times. The third period got a bit too sloppy for my liking. You want to see the Caps finish games against these type of opponents strongly, but they got the win and that’s all that matters.
Caps Player of the Game: It’s going to be hard not to pick Leonard’s first multi-goal game, both of them the highlight reel sort. The Caps haven’t scored a lot of goals this season and Lenny is the kind of player that can score a lot of them. Hopefully this is him starting to get hot.
