Jeffrey Viel took exception to Radko Gudas undercutting Mikey Eyssimont in the third period of the Bruins’ loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday.
Viel dropped his gloves got several shots in before Gudas shoved him to the ice. It looked as if the Ducks defenseman threw a punch while Viel was still down on the ice.
“I think that’s why he’s here,” coach Marco Sturm told reporters after the game. “He’s done it his whole career and he’s done it here. So, good for him.”

A misconduct, five-minute major and a minor penalty was given to Viel. He went to the dressing room with 17:47 left in the game and didn’t return. It was unclear if the forward was injured, but he appeared to hit his head hard on the ice after Gudas’ takedown.
Viel also was wobbly leaving the ice.
“I didn’t see him so I can’t even give you any update,” Sturm said.
The Bruins aren’t scheduled to practice Thursday, but will on Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST before their game in Los Angeles against the Kings.
