The San Jose Sharks (10-6-4) host the Los Angeles Kings (9-8-3) tonight at SAP Center in San Jose in the second meeting between the division rivals.

Los Angeles edged San Jose 4-3 in the first matchup last month, rallying from a blown three-goal lead before Brandt Clarke scored the late winner.

San Jose enters with momentum, having won three of its last five and coming off a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory over Utah in which Macklin Celebrini recorded his second hat trick of the season. Celebrini has been one of the league’s breakout stars — third in the NHL in points (30), fourth in goals (13), and pacing the Sharks in every major offensive category.

The Sharks’ attack has been more efficient than last season, averaging 2.95 goals per game while allowing 3.20. Their power play is clicking at 18.8%, slightly ahead of Los Angeles’s 16.4% unit. Yaroslav Askarov continues to stabilize their back end with a .907 save percentage and six wins.

The Kings, meanwhile, sit one point ahead of San Jose in the Pacific Division and remain one of the league’s stronger road teams (5-3-1 away). Adrian Kempe leads the offense with 19 points and 13 assists, while Kevin Fiala headlines the goal scoring with nine. Still, L.A.’s attack has cooled — just 2.75 goals per game — and they’ve dropped two of their last three, including a 2-1 defeat in Washington on Monday.

Between the pipes, Darcy Kuemper (.904 SV%, 2.42 GAA) gives Los Angeles a reliable veteran presence, though the Kings allow more shots per game (26.1 SA/G) than they generate. San Jose, by contrast, leans heavily on Askarov’s athleticism behind a blue line that continues to give up high shot volume (31.4 SA/G).

Tonight’s matchup tilts toward whichever team controls tempo: the Sharks have been pushing play better at home and getting elite finishing from Celebrini and William Eklund, while the Kings lean on structure, special teams discipline, and balanced scoring throughout their top nine.

San Jose’s recent surge — and the lift from their young core — positions this as a far more even contest than their early-season meeting.

Prediction

The Sharks should put up a fight at home, but Los Angeles’ structure, depth, and special-teams edge give them the upper hand.

Projected Final Score: Kings 4, Sharks 2
